You don’t need to be clairvoyant to know that suspended Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, is not coming back. The suspension was the other option the presidency had, since he wouldn’t resign.
Sanusi was supposed to go,
but not for the reason the presidency suspended him – his big mouth. Unlike the
presidency, Nigerians liked that he could talk and ask questions but, what they
didn’t like was how he doled out billions of the CBN money to organisations, especially in the North, as if they were his private money. More than an Economist, Sanusi
was a Politician.
His intelligence and
oratory would be missed. Some would even miss his fat wallet when theirs run
dry but, all in all, the polity would be better without him. The next CBN
Governor should focus on being an Economist.
